Far Infrared Heating
Far-Infrared Heating is a safe, healthy and very cost-effective form of heating. Our Heaters radiate heat that matches the wavelength of the beneficial warmth we receive from sunlight. It can be delivered into selected zones as required and this radiant energy targets objects as opposed to the air. This means that the thermal energy is retained in the fabric of the building, and we avoid heat losses through air movement and poor insulation.
FIR Heaters work for open sided areas and mimic the warmth of sunlight. We use the term zonal heating to emphasise the manner in which our system functions because we can deliver heat precisely where and when it is required. What is Far Infra-Red
Far Infra-Red or 'FIR' as we sometimes call it, is a part of the light spectrum.
The Light spectrum itself is made up of different wave lengths (see diagram below). You may already know that infrared light isn't visible because it's beyond the spectrum we can see. The FIR wavelength we are concerned with for our heating is coloured red, it is also known as the 'life wave' because of the added health benefits of Far Infra-Red radiation.
Heat is a product of the invisible Far Infra-Red (FIR) light. The reason we get warm from FIR light is because our skin and clothes absorb it. We explain it as the difference between standing directly in sunlight versus standing in the shade. The air temperature will be the same but you feel warmer in the sunlight. This is all because in sunlight you are being hit by Far Infra-red light/radiation. It is absorbed into your clothes and skin and has a warming effect, when you're in the shade the light doesn't reach you hence your colder feeling.
"Far Infra-red" has an electromagnetic radiation wave of 7-10 microns frequency. Our heaters have been engineered to emit these same very safe health benefitting 'Life Waves'. The radiant heat generated will travel through the air until they reach an object, at which point molecules in that object oscillate and "warm up".
This process is how the sun's rays travel through the freezing depths of space, eventually to hit the surface of the earth and warm it up.
Infrared should not be confused with "Microwaves" or "Radiowaves", Far Infra-Red radiation stands alone and has nothing but a beneficial effect on human beings.
How FIR Heating Works
INTERGREEN'S Heaters work by emitting Far Infrared Rays. The rays heat the surfaces of solid objects such as walls, ceilings, floors and even people.
No energy is wasted by heating the surrounding air in the same way as conventional radiators, storage or fan heaters. As we all know if our room or work space has poor insulation, or a door is left ajar, our expensive warm air disappears.
Image above shows a FIR panel Heater and a Conventinal Radiator. The radiator is heating air whereas the Radiant panel is targeting and heating the walls ceiling and floor.
As human beings we benefit from FIR heat in several ways. Firstly we feel the effects of this type of heat almost immediately – no more waiting around for rooms to heat up. Secondly, because we are being heated directly it allows us to reduce the temperature in the room 2-3 degrees and still enjoy that same comfortable feeling. Last but not least, traditional heating systems are notorious for circulating dust, pollen, spores and bacteria which can be harmful to our health. With Radiant Far Infra-red heat the air remains still so asthma sufferers and people with allergies would benefit greatly.
